PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
