Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
