Fans Call for Arrest of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are urging that a individual who breached a fence and touched the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the actors made its way down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some called for online networks to block Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two very different witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, winning a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
