Bullish Celtic's manager does not fear being fired however supporters unleash anger following derby defeat.
The under-pressure manager insisted he did not fear losing his job, maintaining, “I believe we are really close to a turnaround,” even after sliding worryingly close to the chopping block with a heavy setback against their arch-rivals.
Another Capitulation Results in Old Firm Loss
The Hoops were in front their oldest rivals at the break but a disastrous second period allowed Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the reigning Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was appointed from the MLS, has now been in charge for six defeats in his first eight games.
“The board and I are united with the board,” insisted Nancy.
Pressed on his own future, the 48-year-old responded: “That’s not my focus. I concentrate on working out methods to help my team to be good on the fine details.
Fan Fury Erupts
The fans voiced their fury – directed at the board and manager – by protesting at full time. The board are thought to be considering to return to Martin O’Neill, who had a fruitful interim spell last year, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. However by saying this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am pessimistic. No. The message is we are on the cusp, really, really close to reverse our form.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
He highlights the fact Celtic show good levels for one half at a time. Indeed, but for missed chances they would have been better than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we didn't take more goals,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I must remain objective.
“The performance we had at certain moments was of top quality. This is the reality. I wouldn't say that if it was not the case. But that’s why, when it comes to wins, I noted it's a repeating pattern. That’s why I believe a change is coming to things turning around. Currently: the fine margins.”
“We produced many, many good things that we did, as was the case today. But now comes down to sustaining it. My outlook would change if it was not the case. This is why I firmly believe we will manage to get back on track.”
Röhl’s Cautious Stance
Danny Röhl was cautious about a title charge despite what felt like a huge result. “Step by step, and we can develop momentum,” he said. “The faith in the squad is excellent.”
