Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The single showcases a mix of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all making this cause better known and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from later in the month.
